Prompt Perception


Sitting behind the wheel, sun blistering my arm and the car in front of me on this bleak two lane is going twenty miles under the speed limit. As we all have sat there cussing and spinning wildly out of control think about what many of us have thought about fellow drivers at one time or another. We just assume that because the person in front of us is not driving as we would that the person is someone we would never know, befriend what have you. When i encounter someone on the road that frustrates me i automatically try and imagine who they might be. At that moment my imagination's being fueled by my anger, I assume it's some stupid person not paying attention on their cell phone, and so forth. I can completely alter the person driving the vehicle just by my perception of how they are driving or even what car they are driving.

Not only when i am driving but even when i am just sitting somewhere people watching just by looking at someone i begin to imagine what they are like or if i would like them or not. If i eventually go on to meet them such as in a class room environment i soon realize that my early perceptions were wrong, this makes me question what my very early perceptions are based on. I mostly think that when we base characteristics on someone we are assuming that they are like someone we know . We all know that there are people we don't get along with but is this because they remind us of someone. The way we perceive people around us i believe has a lot to do with our own history and backgrounds. We make our minds up according to the way that our minds have been shaped and the people that did the molding. I believe this goes into the prejudice background, i don't think that we just come out of the womb with our own likes and dislikes. These things are taught, if not by our parents or the people around us then by our own experiences with people and the world around us. Mostly I believe that our world of thought has really been made up by the people that influence our world the most.

Hello I am currently a student at Macon State college. I am undecided on my major as of now, however one of my goals is to own my own restaurant someday. I am currently 19 years old and I live with my aunt. I dont have a job right now mostly because I am trying to focus on my education. I have two sisters both ofwhich are married, my sister Johnnie is pregnant right now so i am very excited about becoming an aunt. My other sister Jenny lives in South Carolina she goes to college as well. Some of my hobbys would be hanging out I really enjoy watching movies, I suppose that you could say I am a little bit of a critic. Some of my favorite movies owuld include :The Breakfast Club, Shaun of the Dead, basically anything dealing with zombies (the zed word), i am mostly a horror and comedy buff. I also enjoy music of most kinds. Some of my favorite bands would be :System of a Down, Mindless Self Indulgence, Modest Mouse, CKY, Queen, Rob and White Zombie. I am not too picky I can usually find a beat in most any kind of music.
